Opinion Paragraph: Why Universitas Islam As-Syafi'iyah (UIA) is less known and less popular?

Have you ever heard of Universitas Islam As-Syafi'iyah, often known as UIA? UIA is a private university located in Jatiwaringin, Bekasi, Indonesia.

In 1979, K.H. Abdullah Syafi'ie established the UIA campus in Jatiwaringin on a 1.3-hectare plot of land, entrusting its management to the Chairman of the Presidium. The Chairman of the Presidium began his responsibilities by approaching various parties that could inspire and support the realization of a large and forward-looking university (UIA).

During this period, until the end of 1982, with part of the campus buildings being used for lectures, the Chairman of the Presidium, with the tangible support of scholars and intellectuals, formed teams for the establishment of the faculties, namely:

They consisted of:

a. Faculty of Law Team

b. Faculty of Economics Team

c. Faculty of Teaching and Education Sciences (KIP) Team

d. Faculty of Engineering Team

e. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) Team

These five groups conducted meetings and preparations for the renewal of faculties relevant to their disciplines. From March to July 1983, various meetings were held to discover new innovations for the development of UIA, leading to the establishment of new faculties with new management under Universitas Islam As-Syafi'iyah (UIA).

The five new faculties are the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of KIP, and Faculty of MIPA, affiliated with the Ministry of Education and Culture, under the coordination of Kopertis Region III DKI Jakarta. These five faculties joined the existing institutions, namely the Faculty of Ushuluddin, which had Registered status, the School of Entrepreneurship with Operational Permit status, and Ma'had Aly Darul Arqam, forming a unified institution, Universitas Islam As-Syafi'iyah.

So, why is UIA (Universitas Islam As-Syafi'iyah) less popular and well-known? Here are some possible reasons why UIA might be less popular and less known:

1. Limited Advertising: If UIA doesn't advertise much, people might not know about it. Good advertising helps more people learn about the university.

2. Reputation: Universities with a long history and strong reputation attract more students. UIA might not be as well-known as other older universities.

3. Courses Offered: The number and quality of courses are important. If UIA doesn’t offer many popular or high-quality programs, students might choose other universities.

4. Facilities: Modern facilities like labs, libraries, and sports areas attract students. If UIA doesn’t have good facilities, it might be less appealing.

5. Alumni Success: Successful graduates can improve a university's reputation. If UIA doesn’t have many successful alumni, it might not seem as attractive.

6. Accreditation and Rankings: High accreditation and good rankings make a university more attractive. If UIA doesn’t rank high, it might be less popular.

7. Cost: The cost of studying is important. If UIA’s fees are too high or too low (suggesting lower quality), students might go elsewhere.

8. Teaching Quality: Good teachers and teaching methods are crucial. If UIA’s teaching quality is not seen as good, students might prefer other universities.

9. Partnerships: Connections with industries and other universities help attract students. If UIA has fewer partnerships, it might seem less promising for future careers.

Then, how to make UIA more known and attractive to new students?

The conclusion, in order for UIA to be better known and more attractive, UIA should address some weaknesses and strengthen promotion efforts about the campus so that people or prospective students are interested in getting to know more about UIA. Here are some suggestions to improve UIA's branding:

- Promotion: Promotional activities are a priority component of branding and marketing. Through effective promotion, potential students will become aware of the campus's excellent programs for new students.

- Scholarship Programs: This approach is well-known, as many campuses use it for branding. It has a positive impact on the campus and is beneficial for recipients, thus attracting the interest of prospective students.

These suggestions focus on enhancing visibility and attractiveness of UIA through effective promotion and beneficial scholarship programs.
